The Ultimate Guide to Packing for a Summer Vacation:

We all look forward to that Summer trip you've planning all year, but getting everything ready can always be a bit of a headache and overwhelming. Here is our guide to make packing a breeze.

1. Plan Ahead and Make a List

Start by making a comprehensive list of everything you need. Categorize items into clothing, toiletries, electronics, documents, and miscellaneous. This not only ensures you don’t forget anything but also helps you pack methodically. We love to use the notes app on your phone for this, then your list travels to your vacation with you. You can even take photos and store them in your Notes if you are more of a visual person.

2. Choose Versatile Clothing

Opt for versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched. Aim for lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Here’s a basic checklist:

  • Tops: A mix of casual T-shirts, tank tops, and a couple of dressier blouses.
  • Bottoms: A pair of shorts, a skirt, and one or two pairs of lightweight pants.
  • Dresses/Rompers: Easy one-piece outfits that are perfect for day or night.
  • Swimwear: At least two swimsuits to alternate while the other dries.
  • Layering Pieces: A light sweater or cardigan for cooler evenings.
  • Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes, flip-flops or sandals, and one pair of dressy shoes if needed.

3. Stick to a Color Scheme

Choose a color palette to ensure all pieces coordinate well together. Neutrals with a pop of color can be a great way to maximize outfit combinations without overpacking.

4. Travel-Sized Toiletries

Minimize your toiletry bag by using travel-sized containers. Essentials include:

  • Sunscreen: An absolute must for summer. (Check out our new natural sunscreen from bareMinerals)
  • Moisturizer: A hydrating formula to counteract sun exposure. (We have both a tinted moisturizer and non tinted moisturizer from bareMinerals)
  • Shampoo & Conditioner: Choose a bar shampoo & conditioner to not have to deal with liquids. (We offer an amazing bar option from Kistch)
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste: Compact, foldable toothbrushes are a great space-saver.
  • Minimal Makeup: Go for multipurpose products like a tinted moisturizer with SPF and a lip and cheek tint. (Again, bareMinerals has tons of options for this)

5. Pack Smart with Accessories

Accessories can change up your look without taking much space:

  • Sunglasses: Stylish and protective.
  • Hat: A wide-brimmed hat or a cap to shield from the sun.
  • Scarf/Sarong: Multifunctional as a wrap, beach cover-up, or a blanket.
  • Jewelry: Opt for a few statement pieces that can dress up any outfit.

6. Organize with Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are a game-changer for keeping your suitcase organized. They help compartmentalize different categories and make it easy to locate items without rummaging through your entire bag.  (These are a must have and we just got the cutest sets in)

7. Essential Electronics and Documents

Ensure you have all necessary electronics and documents:

  • Phone and Charger: Include a portable power bank.
  • Camera: For capturing memories, if your phone camera isn’t sufficient.
  • Travel Documents: Passport, ID, travel itinerary, and any reservation confirmations. I'm old fashion and always like to print these out to have an extra copy in case technology is being difficult.
  • Cash and Cards: A mix of local currency and cards for convenience.

8. Leave Room for Souvenirs

Pack light enough to leave some space for any souvenirs or new items you might pick up on your travels.

9. Carry-On Essentials

If flying, pack a small carry-on with essentials to tide you over in case of delays or lost luggage:

  • Change of Clothes: A fresh outfit in case your luggage is delayed.
  • Toiletries: Basic items to freshen up during travel.
  • Snacks: Non-perishable snacks like nuts or granola bars.
  • Entertainment: Books, magazines, or downloaded content on your device.

10. Stay Stylish and Comfortable

Ultimately, your comfort is paramount. Choose clothing and accessories that you feel good in and that suit the activities you have planned.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your summer vacation is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, with all the essentials at hand and without the burden of overpacking. Happy travels!
